PS3 Games and Apps You Can Use On Your Vita Now

It’s always a little disappointing when you get a product that was advertised to be able to do something which in reality, it doesn’t. That’s similar to the PlayStation Vita’s situation. Many gamers hoped to be able to pick up this new handheld, go on the road, and play their PS3 games through the device. Now, Sony never officially advertised the Vita as being able to play PS3 games but avid gamers pay attention and we saw what was going on at trade shows. One of the major points of interest for many gamers was the fact that the Vita had the potential to play full PS3 games via remote play.

However, upon launch of the device, it was very clear that this wasn’t enabled. The device was still capable though. Do a quick search on the internet and you can find some gamers who have unlocked that potential from the Vita (through custom fw) and have played full PS3 games with remote play such as Battlefield 3 and Red Dead Redemption. In addition, PlayStation did announce during E3 2012 that a Summer Firmware update will be released that will enable this function allowing the Vita to play select PS3 games over the remote play option.

Okay, that’s all fine and dandy, but some gamers ask, “What about now?” The update still hasn’t been released, and some gamers want to get the most out of the system as they can. Well, guess what? There are in fact PS3 games and applications that you can use on you PlayStation Vita, right now, using the remote play option.

As I was playing around with my Vita and PS3, I decided to go hook up the remote play function and go through my list of 130+ downloaded games on my PS3 and see if any worked on the Vita. To my surprise, a few did. They were as follows:

Games
  • PixelJunk Eden
  • PixelJunk Monsters
  • High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition
Apps
  • SingStar Viewer
  • Life With PlayStation
  • Vidzone (EU only)

Alright, they may not be the games and apps you want to play on your Vita (or even your PS3 for that matter) but these games and apps are available right now. No disc-based games have worked out of the dozens I have tried. If you want to try them out, go over to the PS Store download the games if you haven’t already and fire up  the remote play options.

The Summer update (noted above) will enable PS3/Vita remote play of full PS3 games such as:

  • BLAZBLUE (PS3)
  • BLAZBLUE CONTINUUM SHIFT (PS3)
  • ICO (PS3)
  • God of War (PS3)
  • God of War II (PS3)
  • Shadow of the Colossus (PS3)

Evidently, more will be enabled as time progresses.

Have you tried the PS3 game Lair? It worked via remote play on the PSP. And all of the titles you mentioned wads the same that worked on PSP.. I’m willing to bet it will work. Also, any PS One games you put in the disk drive will work through Remote as well.

I have not tried out Lair as I no longer own it. If someone is willing to try it out and confirm it, I’ll gladly update the list.

Also, yes, you’re right about the PSP remote play for these games as well as the PS One. I used to do the same on my PSP. Interestingly though, there are some people out there who still do not know, even after owning the systems. Thanks for your input!

How can you miss out PSOne games? There are hundreds of them that you can play via Remote Play. At least until they are compatible with the PS Vita.

We didn’t miss out on the PSOne games. This article is about PS3 format software. Not PSOne. We have run various other articles that detail all the other functions of the Vita including PSOne remote play and the upcoming update for PSOne classic downloads to the Vita.
