After 50 glorious years, The Amazing Spider-Man is coming to its end this year with issue 700. Many fans were wondering what would happen to the web-head now that his prime comic was ending. As we approach NYCC, Marvel has answered some of our questions. Spider-Man is no longer just Amazing, he’s now Superior.
USA Today reports that a new comic will be replacing the age-old Amazing Spider-Man comic, The Superior Spider-Man. This new comic will launch in 2013 (no official date yet) and will be headed by Dan Slott, the current writer for The Amazing Spider-Man. Artists Ryan Stegman, Humberto Ramos, and Giuseppe Camuncoli are all slated for the illustrations in the comic – Ryan Stegman taking the first three issues.
Unlike the Peter Parker, Spider-Man that we have known for decades, Slott promises that things will be different this time around. They’re changing the persona of Spider-Man making the comic a much darker comic and taking the “friendly” out of his title – He’s “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” no more.
Spider-Man will be going through a lot of changes, including his costume which will receive some upgrades. You can check out a sketch of the redesign below:
As someone who grew up on The Amazing Spider-Man, it’s a bit of a sad time knowing that this iconic and legendary comic is comic to an end this year with The Amazing Spider-Man #700. However, a new dawn approaches and we don’t quite know all the details of what’s in store for The Superior Spider-Man. Time will tell.
