The 55th Annual Grammy Awards is right around the corner and once again, gaming has left its mark. One of the year’s highest rated and critically acclaimed games, Journey, has been nominated in the category of ‘Best Soundtrack For Visual Media.’ The Sony Computer Entertainment title has been recognized in the gaming industry as a remarkable work of art and a breathtaking experience. It is already up for several Game of the Year nominations and other awards throughout the gaming industry. Now the game, developed by ThatGameCompany, is being recognized on an even larger scale.
After the nomination, composer Austin Wintory tweeted,
Well I don’t really have words right now …. I just got a Grammy nomination for #JourneyPS3
I can imagine anyone who gets a nomination would be quite speechless when they find out. It’s such a high honor. You might remember, last year (2011) another game, Civilization IV, had a piece (Baba Yetu) nominated and actually win a Grammy. But one should also note, while one song from a game was nominated prior – Journey’s soundtrack has made a bit of history being the first gaming soundtrack nominated for a Grammy. It should be interesting if video games pull it off once again showing that there is a lot more depth to be found in the media.
Journey and Austin Wintory go up against some big names and titles including:
We reviewed Journey earlier this year and gave it a near perfect score. I highly recommend not only the game but also the soundtrack that the game received this nomination for. You can find it right now on the PlayStation Network, Amazon.com,and iTunes.
