Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have officially announced Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. These are two separate games to join the Batman: Arkham video game franchise.
Batman: Arkham Origins will be coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Windows PC. Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will be available for the Nintendo 3DS, and PlayStation Vita. Both games are scheduled to release worldwide Oct. 25, 2013.
The hit franchise is moving from the hands of Rocksteady games to WB Games Montréal for the main game, Batman: Arkham Origins. The game is said to feature an expanded Gotham City and act as a prequel set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City.
Initial Batman: Arkham Origins Synopsis: “Taking place before the rise of Gotham Citys most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships.”
As for the handheld companion, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is a 2.5-D game that is being developed by Armature Studio. This game takes place after the events of Batman: Arkham Origins continuing the storyline of the console version.
Batman: Arkham Origins and Arkham Origins Blackgate both launch this year on October 25, 2013.
