Rumor | New PlayStation All-Stars MMO In The Works For PS4?

It’s not often that I like to report on rumors, but the last rumor from this source proved [partially] true. The PlayStation representative who informed us about a new Vita model and firmware update has given us hints about a PS4 game that may be in the works a la PlayStation All-Stars. While we still have yet to hear anything about a new Vita model, since his information about the firmware update proved [somewhat] true with the recent FW Update version 2.10, I figured I would give this bit of news a chance.

According to the rep, Sony Computer Entertainment is working on a brand new PlayStation MMO for the PS4. He said, from what he found out a few months back, there have been talks for a MMO for quite some time but due to hardware limitations, they never proceeded with the project – that is until the PS4. Evidently, thanks to the PS4’s PC-like architecture, the console provided a perfect environment to develop the project.

The game is a free to play MMO visiting the varying worlds from PlayStation universes. The world will be divided up into regions inspired by different PlayStation first party franchises (I assume like inFAMOUS’ Empire City and Ratchet & Clank’s Megapolis). Players will be able to go on missions with/for PlayStation All-Star characters in each of these worlds. There is a character creation mode, but no specifics on what special abilities your character will have (if any).

The rep described the game as a cross between the recently released PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and a highly evolved PlayStation Home…. I’m not sure whether to take that as a positive or negative.

Game Features:

  • PlayStation franchise inspired maps
  • Character creation
  • Free to play
  • Tiered optional memberships (like DCUO)
  • Micro-transactions

The rep made sure to point out that the pricing models (F2P, micro-transactions, memberships) are not set in stone and since this project is still in early stages, those ideas can easily change. However, their goal is to make the finished product with that kind of support. Supposedly since the game is still in the early stages of development it will not be announced for a while.

On the note of rumors, our source revisited that last Vita report and said that a new model is still coming but the details are a little more sketchy now as he has limited access to that information.

Well – Another day, another rumor. Will this one actually prove true? Make sure to take another grain of salt and we’ll see the outcome. Sound off in the comments below: Would you like to see a PlayStation MMO? If so, what kind of features would you like in the game?
